It all starts in those early months, as early as day 1.
That first butt sniff, the first tumble or scary new experience like next doors children or the solitary lab that sits guard on the drive at the end of the street.
But what really matters is how you react and what your new dog takes away from this.
Positive reinforced is key. Find out what makes him tick! A ball? A treat? Maybe it's all about you!?
Don't over Socialise.
The first 5 months of a dogs life are vital to their perception of the outside world.
Go slowly, some days encourage interaction with passers by you may know.
Other days just walk by and say 'We're training' trust me, any dog owner will understand.
Work on that recall, in all situations and positively reinforce with boundaries set in place.
A bad experience isn't any need to worry. It's how you manage the aftermath and your approach the next social encounter that will have the biggest benefit.
Sometimes it's best to take a step back and revert to day 1 lessons.
This isn't a failure. But you showing empathy and bonding which is key.
And most of all have fun! Enjoy those little needle teeth when the 'leave' command hasn't full developed yet, get over excited when a No1 or 2 are done in an unfamiliar place and of course those cuddles at the end of each outing.
